Asphalt Roofing Benefits

Until recently, suggesting anything but asphalt roofing was strange. Asphalt shingles are the traditional residential roofing material in the US. Asphalt is a thick roofing option that typically costs less regarding material costs and installation. There are many styles available.

Asphalt is a good fit for most homes. Some daring homeowners choose asphalt because they want roofing repair to be a do-it-yourself project. It's possible for a homeowner can climb onto the roof and do the repair. That can be unsafe and it doesn't always result in the best repair, but it's possible.

In most locations, an asphalt roof lasts 50 years or more. Adverse weather conditions can affect the lifespan of asphalt roofing. Despite those conditions, an asphalt roof typically withstands the weather for at least 25 years with proper maintenance. Asphalt is the less expensive of the two major residential options, and it comes in virtually any color and goes well with nearly all home designs.

Metal Roofing Benefits

Metal roofs have earned a prominent place in industrial and commercial use, and more recently, they're becoming popular in residential applications. Using metal for residential roofing is a relatively new concept. Quality metal roofing has some significant advantages. Extreme longevity tops the list.

Metal roofs last a century. All but the cheapest metal roofs offer superior element protection. We can fashion metal into nearly any roofing design imaginable. We even offer metal roofing options that imitate shingles.

Metal roofs are a reliable, dependable option. The price is the most limiting factor. Even cheap metal roofs cost more than expensive asphalt, although few people choose to settle for cheap metal roofing. However, when you consider longevity — a metal roof is likely the last roof you'll ever need to put on your home —a metal roof is an investment worth considering.

Asphalt Shingles or Metal Roofing?

In the mental battle between longevity and price, asphalt roofing options typically last just as long as you own the home. If extreme weather is a problem, metal is likely the better option.

As far as longevity goes, it's hard to find roofing material that lasts longer than well-made metal. Metal roofs are available in a wide selection of colors and styles. Some look like popular asphalt roofs.

Watch out for shockingly low bids! Cheap metal roofing performs poorly under snowy or rainy conditions or strong winds. Those weather conditions need to be a consideration when choosing roofing material. Cheap metal roofs allow the sound of every raindrop to carry. Cheap metal is not an attractive option.

Metal roofing designs that look beautiful are plentiful. They offer superior extreme weather performance and have a quiet, comfortable feel. Metal costs considerably more (and high-end metal can cost four times as much as asphalt), but the investment is worth it in the long run.

Find the Right Type of Flat Roof Replacement for Your Building

When choosing a roofing system for a flat roof, take the time to talk to Hometown Roofing of Texas. We're able to understand your unique needs, as well as what the property will be used for. From there, we’ll recommend a roof that is durable, sustainable, and falls within your budget. We’ll even keep your aesthetic and curb appeal needs in mind as well.

  • Felt Roofs

This type of roof includes modified bitumen technology, which provides better resistance to UV damage and cracking. The felt roof is applied as a three-layer system that is comprised of a perforated underlay, a 2mm underlay and a thick 4-5mm felt. These layers are enhanced with a strong polyester weave within the felt, which helps to increase the roof’s strength.

Felt roofing offers several benefits. It can fit a roof of any size, it is highly affordable, it is available in a variety of colors, and it is resistant to damage. A damaged section can simply be repaired by torching a new patch of felt over it. From green and purple to gray and brown, felt roofs have a variety of finishes that give them great aesthetic appearances.

  • Asphalt Roofs

An asphalt flat roof incorporates modern polymer formulations and can be used in a number of tasks, including paving. It can be laid on timber, concrete, and metal, and it can be laid down even around curves. The asphalt roof has a durability of 40 years and longer, and this material is easy and cheap to repair.

Before installing this type of roof, we will need to make sure your roof is strong enough to handle the weight.

  • EPDM Rubber Roof

Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) is a true rubber. This roofing material is primarily used in low-slope buildings and is trusted for its durable nature and ability to resist damage from sunlight. It also features some of the lowest costs of any type of flat roofing material — around $.80 for every square foot.

It can be mechanically moored with fasteners, glued, or ballasted with stone. Its leaks are easy to patch, and it is resistant to tears and scuffs. Because EPDM is a lightweight roofing material, your roof deck won’t need any additional reinforcement.

Top-quality EPDM materials and roof installation can give you a healthy roof life of up to 20 years.

  • Fiberglass GRP Flat Roof

A fiberglass flat roof is a high-performance, low-maintenance roofing system. If properly installed, this roof is durable for up to 20 to 25 years. It is a jointless, seamless flat roof with dedicated roof resins. It doesn’t need to be welded, either. This means you have a solid roof that is almost completely waterproof.

Fiberglass roof repairs are typically accomplished by sanding down the edges and applying acetone to clear the area. From there, a mixture of resin and catalyst (sometimes milled fiber is also added if the damage is deep) is applied to the repaired area, and time is given for the mixture to cure.

This type of roof should be installed when the weather is totally dry.

  • TPO Roof

Thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) is a single-ply reflective roofing membrane that is made from polymerizing together polypropylene and ethylene-propylene rubber. TPO is installed in either a mechanically attached, point-affixed, or fully adhered system. This installation enables the white membrane to stay exposed over the roof’s lifespan.

If you want to install a single-ply roofing membrane that is also energy efficient, we recommend you consider TPO roofing. The components of this roof allow it to have great flexibility in cold weather. It has the benefits of the PVC and EPDM systems, and it is cost-effective.

The TPO’s white membrane offers great reflectivity, which enhances the roof's resistance to UV and heat.

    Additional Benefits of TPO Roofing

There are a number of reasons why you should consider TPO roofing for your home or business with a flat roof.

    • It can work with solar panels, which helps reach desired levels of sustainability.
    • It is 100% recyclable.
    • It can be installed on both high-slope and low-slope surfaces.
    • It can be heated and reshaped a number of times.
    • It is flexible and highly resistant to tears, punctures, and other sorts of impacts.
    • It’s available in 0.045, 0.060, and 0.080 thicknesses.
    • Its flexibility enables easy and fast installation
    • It doesn’t require a lot of maintenance over its lifetime.
    • TPO membranes come well-sized, which can help to reduce the labor costs during installation.
    • It is environmentally friendly, as it doesn’t contain any hazardous elements.

TPO roof systems have been installed in homes and businesses for more than 30 years now. The roofing has excellent aesthetic value and can be installed in a variety of homes. Some of the color options that it offers are light gray, white, and black reflective color options.
